Allen Chartier has been a birder since age 11 with 35 years of experience with birds and wildlife.
He is co-founder of Holiday Beach Migration Observatory and has been an official hawk and songbird
counter at Holiday Beach (1976 - 1996). He has traveled throughout the world to observe and photograph
birds and wildlife. Allen is a federally licensed bird bander in Michigan, Ohio and Ontario with a current emphasis
on hummingbird banding. He is the project director for Michigan HummerNet (http://www.amazilia.net/MIHummerNet/), a statewide survey of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. In October 2000,
Allen passed his NABC banding certification exam. He has also co-authored Birds of Detroit.
Some of his research projects include the USFWS Breeding Bird Survey, North American Migration Count and Michigan Bird Survey.
He currently resides in Inkster, Michigan with his wife Nancy.
