About the authors of Hawks of Holiday Beach, 2nd Edition

Allen Chartier has been a birder since age 11 with 35 years of experience with birds and wildlife. He is co-founder of Holiday Beach Migration Observatory and has been an official hawk and songbird counter at Holiday Beach (1976 - 1996). He has traveled throughout the world to observe and photograph birds and wildlife. Allen is a federally licensed bird bander in Michigan, Ohio and Ontario with a current emphasis on hummingbird banding. He is the project director for Michigan HummerNet (http://www.amazilia.net/MIHummerNet/), a statewide survey of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. In October 2000, Allen passed his NABC banding certification exam. He has also co-authored Birds of Detroit. Some of his research projects include the USFWS Breeding Bird Survey, North American Migration Count and Michigan Bird Survey. He currently resides in Inkster, Michigan with his wife Nancy.
David Stimac has been birding for the past 21 years, since he was 14 years old. He has held banding subpermits for songbirds and raptors. His interests include shorebirds as well as raptors. David became interested in the Hawk Watch in 1987 and has been a contributor ever since. His formal art training has been put to use in his job creating advertisements for Ameritech Publishing as well as illustrating birds, including several covers for Michigan Birds and Natural History. His photographs show a high degree of professionalism, and David has had a number of his photos published in a variety of magazines including Ducks Unlimited.
